La French-American Foundation a été créée en 1975 à l’initiative de responsables politiques, universitaires et économiques, tous convaincus de la nécessité de créer, à Paris et à New-York, un lieu de débats et d’échanges réguliers pour approfondir les relations entre la France et les États-Unis.C’est lors d’un dîner d’État à Washington le 18 mai 1976, réunissant les présidents Gerald Ford et Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, à l’occasion des célébrations du bicentenaire de la Déclaration d’Indépendance des États-Unis, qu’elle a été officiellement inaugurée.Quelques années plus tard, en 1981, c’est la naissance de notre programme phare, le programme Young Leaders, qui vise à bâtir des relations durables entre jeunes personnalités françaises et américaines et appelées à de hautes fonctions dans leurs pays respectifs.A travers ce programme Young Leaders, mais également à travers tous les cycles de rencontres et d’échanges développés au fil des années, la French-American Foundation est aujourd’hui l’un des acteurs majeurs de la relation transatlantique.The French-American Foundation was created in 1975 at the initiative of numerous politicians, academics and economic leaders, convinced of the need to create, in Paris and in New York, a place for debate and regular dialogue to strengthen relations between France and the United States.The French-American Foundation was officially inaugurated on May 18, 1976, during a state dinner in Washington, bringing together Presidents Gerald Ford and Valéry Giscard d’Estaing to celebrate the bicentennial of the Declaration of Independence of the United States.A few years later, in 1981, our flagship Young Leaders program was launched.
