They discussed the challenges and threats to democracy, due to the rise \u000d\u000aof populism and anti-democratic movements, and how to protect our democratic institutions. The war in \u000d\u000aUkraine as well as the tragic situation in the Middle East were also crucial topics.\u000d\u000aThe Young Leaders visited several memorials to the traumatic events of World War II, and for the first time \u000d\u000ain the history of the Young Leader program, they visited a concentration camp, the Natzweiler-Struthof \u000d\u000aconcentration camp where we paid homage to those who suffered and died during these horrific events. \u000d\u000aVisiting Struthof allowed us to understand how these tragedies happen and how to prevent a future \u000d\u000apossibility. On the last day of the seminar, the Young Leaders talked together about the challenges that \u000d\u000atheir generation will be facing in the years to come. Climate change, the rise of extremisms and democracies \u000d\u000ain danger, artificial intelligence, and access to healthcare and education were just a few of the subjects that \u000d\u000athey touched on. In October \u000d\u000a2023, the 2022-23 classes of Young Leaders gathered in \u000d\u000aStrasbourg, France for our annual seminar, exploring iconic \u000d\u000ahistorical sites, engaging with prominent local and international \u000d\u000aleaders, all while growing their leadership skills and deepening \u000d\u000atheir understanding of French-American relations. \u000d\u000aOn October 5th and 6th, FAF-US hosted a 2-day Young \u000d\u000aLeaders Alumni Reunion in New York City, giving alumni from \u000d\u000aall classes a chance to meet and reconnect, tune into keynote \u000d\u000apresentations and small group discussions, and raise a glass in \u000d\u000acelebration of French-American friendship. Speakers included \u000d\u000aCarol Bellamy YL\u201981, former Executive Director of UNICEF; Marc \u000d\u000aLacey YL\u201901, Managing Editor of The New York Times; and Jamie \u000d\u000aMetzl YL\u201902, Author and Futurist.\u000d\u000aWith the French-American Foundation \u2013 France, we hosted \u000d\u000aour annual French-American Cyber Security Conference in \u000d\u000aWashington, D.C., on December 6th and 7th, welcoming a record \u000d\u000anumber of participants. The conference, now in its tenth year, \u000d\u000afocused on \u201cThe Impact of Emerging Technologies in a Dynamic \u000d\u000aGeopolitical and Cyber Security Global Landscape,\u201d featuring \u000d\u000aspeakers from government, technology, and national security \u000d\u000asectors. The Foundation also hosts cyber security webinars \u000d\u000athroughout the year, including \u201cGeopolitics and Cybersecurity \u000d\u000ain Ukraine and Beyond\u201d with Dmitri Alperovitch.\u000d\u000aThe Foundation\u2019s Transatlantic Forum, a membership-only \u000d\u000agroup of seasoned professionals interested in contemporary \u000d\u000aFrench-American relations, had a busy year. Members meet \u000d\u000aregularly in New York for dinner and discussions featuring \u000d\u000alocal and global experts. In 2023, we welcomed distinguished \u000d\u000aspeakers Dora Chomiak (President of Razom for Ukraine), \u000d\u000aFrank Brown (Former Dean, INSEAD), Ravina Advani (Head \u000d\u000aof Energy & Renewables at BNP Paribas), Tara Varma (Visiting \u000d\u000aFellow at the Brookings Institution), Tracy Sefl (Democratic \u000d\u000apolitical consultant), and world-renowned neuroscientist Dr. \u000d\u000aMoran Cerf. Topics included the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, \u000d\u000athe landscape for women\u2019s rights in the U.S., and global \u000d\u000ainvestments in climate change solutions.\u000d\u000aOur Policy Breakfast series, featuring closed-door discussions \u000d\u000awith prominent guests of honor, resumed with speaker Philippe \u000d\u000a\u00c9tienne, former Ambassador of France to the United States, \u000d\u000adiscussing the French-American diplomacy and current issues \u000d\u000aimpacting both countries. \u000d\u000aOn the cultural side, the Foundation\u2019s Translation Prize, which \u000d\u000ahonors excellence in French-to-English translation, held its \u000d\u000a36th annual awards ceremony in May 2023 at Hearst Tower. We \u000d\u000awelcomed keynote speaker Alice Kaplan, author, translator, and \u000d\u000aSterling Professor of French at Yale University, and honored \u000d\u000aJuliet Sutcliffe in fiction (for her translation of fiction\u2019s The Music \u000d\u000aGame by Stefanie Clermont), and Kieran Aarons and C\u00e9drine \u000d\u000aMichel in nonfiction (for their co-translation of nonfiction\u2019s Self \u000d\u000aDefense: A Philosophy of Violence by Elsa Dorlin). \u000d\u000aThe Foundation\u2019s annual Gala was held in June 2023 at the \u000d\u000ahistoric Rainbow Room in New York City.
